As memtioned on the main club site we will be doing a short, outdoor photo assignment at the May meeting. Assignments will have suggested topics for the shoot. Then, each photographers session will be downloaded and we will do a live and fast edit and critique of each group of shots. There will be limits placed on each individual photographer, during the assignments, so that we can have the time to view all the submissions. The best of will then be combined into a short slideshow and viewed by the end of the evening. As also mentioned on the wibsite, a digital camera will be necessary and there are only one or two members to whom this need will affect. So if you are not able to borrow a digital, please post here and we will co-ordinate with others for a loaner. Hoping that this will be a fun and informative session for all of us. Stay tuned here as more information is posted.

Here is an article from CreativePro that might be of interest about the image within an image. A discussion about form, content, colour, shape and gesture and their relation within an image. http://www.creativepro.com/story/feature/25393.html
As mentioned for the May meeting, a digital camera will allow for immediate interaction of the images taken once we all get back to the church for viewing, editing, selection and general collaboration about all the images taken. Film cameras could be used but the immediacy of the event will be lost.
As to what equipment you can use, the door is wide open. Wide angle, telephoto, zooms, flash, tripods, DSLRs, point and shoots, anything you want that will take a digital image. It is not the equipment that we are concentrating on but the resulting images that are found for the workshop criteria.
From the articles that are posted you might start to see a theme arriving for the nights event. |

So a reminder to download all your photos that you presently have on your cameras, before you come to the May 15th meeting night. Please reformat your memory cards so that only the images from the meeting nights shoot are on the cards. We will not have a lot of time for weeding through and importing all the shots at the meeting and it will help speed things up if we only have the evenings pictures on your memory cards.
You can shoot in either RAW or JPG format, your choice. The workflow program that will be used for the night is Aperture and it should be able to handle all RAW formats that are currently available. As well, I will have a universal card reader so I am not anticipating any incompatibilities between computer and cameras.
Here is hoping that the weather will be co-operative but just in case, you might want to consider bringing an umbrella and plastic bags to protect your gear if it happens to be a little damp. So far, there is no plan 'B'.
In case you want to bring along some prints for a schmooze I would suggest the theme of "patterns". Don't know if we will have time to discuss any presented pictures, but it will give us something to look at if a download backlog occurs. |

Thanks Manfred
For those of you who weren't able to attend, you missed a lot of fun. The weather was actually a bonus and a lot of great photography was generated from those who were there. We had to do a bit of last minute shuffling but everyone adapted and indicated that they would like to do more of these live seminars.
So stay tuned who knows what will happen next.
Oh ya, I know, 'cause in June we are doing a lighting seminar. Ideas on improving you lighting techniques at an affordable price. Demos and hands on stuff, so stay tuned and watch the site for more details. |
