Bay Photoclub Fall 2008 Lake Superior Trip

Dates: Departing Saturday 20 Sep - Returning Friday 26 Sep

Destination: Rabbit Blanket Lake Campground; Lake Superior Provincial Park.

Accommodations: tent camping. RBL has electrical sites and comfort stations with showers.

Meals: cooked on site by participants. Dietary issues info will be sought from participants then draft menu sent around for comments.

Documentation: all participants will be required to sign a Waiver in order to take part in the trip. All participants will be required to bring their OHIP cards with them. If you wear a medical alert bracelet or necklace please advise Kevin and Bruce in advance.

Cost: TBD, but will be shared equally by participants. There will be a trip commitment fee that must be paid ahead of time in order for us to make campsite reservations. Due to Ontario Parks Reservations/Cancellations/Change policies and fees – the commitment fee will be non-refundable. It will not be large but it is nonrefundable. A trip fee will be announced well in advance of the trip. It will take into account campsite fees, an estimate for food and other supplies, fuel and other vehicle costs. The trip fee will be payable in full prior to departing on the trip. If a person has not paid their trip fee by the required date - food will not be purchased and they are not on the trip. After the trip all costs will be totaled and then as required either refunds will be distributed or remaining funds owed will be announced and members will then have one week to make payment.

Travel: by members vehicles. Vehicles must be in good repair, currently registered and insured with at least $500,000 liability coverage. Because members are responsible for the life and well being of others – Speeding and other aggressive driving will not be tolerated. Fuel costs for all vehicles will be totaled and then paid equally be all members of the group (this means everyone pays the same fuel cost whether they ride in a Toyota Hybrid or Chevy SUV). Also – it was previously decided that for each person who drives their vehicle on the trip and carries other members/gear – the cost of one oil change will be paid as well. This oil change will be at either Oil Changers or Pennzoil rate – if you get your oil change done by a dealer – you will pay the difference.

Secondary travel: we will be bringing a number of canoes along to explore Lake Superior if it is still, also smaller lakes, rivers, ponds and swamps.

Suggested Kit List: will be sent out closer to trip date. However – it is very strongly recommended that you use duffel bags, tote bags and backpacks for carrying your clothing – not suitcases. We will be staying in tents for six nights and suitcases do not good tent mates make.

Important dates:

Jun 17 Club meeting – the last meeting where the trip will be discussed, last chance to get on the “interested list” to receive emails etc. Interested list is not a commitment. If you are interested but have special needs and/or special dietary issues – this is the time to make them known to Kevin and Bruce. Vegetarians we can work with. Vegans will be required to bring their own food.

Fri 1 Aug – commitment fee to be paid confirming your attendance on the trip. Fee is non-refundable.

Tues 5 Aug – campsite bookings made as required. Later that week draft menu will be sent out for comment. Also – suggested kit list will be sent.

Last week of August – menu firmed up.

Friday 12 Sep – trip payment in full required.

Wednesday 17 Sep – shopping night for food and other supplies (naptha, propane etc).

Friday 19 Sep – all luggage and camping gear should be dropped off and packed in the designated transport vehicle. We do not want to be running around packing vehicles and cramming in gear on the morning of the departure. All vehicles should be fully gassed up.

Saturday 20 Sep – all vehicles meet in the Wasaga Beach Wal-Mart parking lot at 5:45 am in order to depart at 6:00 am. (The drive to the park is approx 11 hours.)
